GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Research Engineer will join the Traverso lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital to develop new pharmacological interventions for chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, obesity, etc.). The lab consists of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and physicians focused on preclinical development of translatable technologies that push the boundaries of medicine. The candidate will apply their expertise in molecular biology, biomaterials science, synthetic biology, or biomedical engineering to assist in the development of implantable drug delivery systems and cell therapies. This a one-year term position with the possibility of extension.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan and execute experimental protocols to develop and characterize new drug formulations, drug delivery devices, and cell therapies;
• Characterize performance of drug formulations, drug delivery devices, and cell therapies in small and large preclinical animal models;
• Analyze experimental results using statistical methodology;
• Summarize, document, and present research results/findings;
• Reagent procurement and record-keeping;
• Ensure safety standards/procedures are followed, prepare lab for inspections, and correct problems;
• Communicate, interpret, and provide training on lab policies.
Qualifications
Qualifications
• B.S./B.A. in a relevant scientific field (i.e., molecular biology, polymer chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical engineering);
• Two years of prior experience working in a laboratory environment (which may include experience gained at the undergraduate level);
• Demonstrated commitment to producing accurate and high-quality data;
• Experience operating and maintaining technical instruments/equipment;
• Comfort summarizing, reporting and presenting results to researchers;
• Strong organizational, time management and documentation skills;
• Willingness to learn new scientific tools and techniques;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Awareness of basic safety issues and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Skills/ Abilities/ Competencies Required
• Experience with molecular biology assays (ELISA, PCR, protein expression, phage display, next-gen sequencing, cell culture)
• Experience in drug formulation and characterization
• Experience with polymer synthesis and characterization
• Experience with analytical methods (HPLC, LC-MS, SPR, XRD, CD, ICP)
• Experience working with laboratory animal
