At Reality Labs Research (RL Research), you will join a world-class team exploring cutting edge machine learning, computer vision, hardware, software, and state-of-the-art augmented and mixed reality technology. Every day, you will work alongside the world's leading Research Scientists, and Engineers to explore the next generation of research opportunities on the path to building future machine perception enabled XR devices. Meta is seeking a Research Engineer with expertise in sensors and algorithms for machine perception capable of working through all the stages of prototype development from sensors and compute selection to firmware development and algorithm prototyping and testing. A successful candidate in this role is self-driven, creative and capable of coordinating across a multidisciplinary engineering team to bring a prototype from concept to realization. This person will take initiative and should be willing to execute consistently in an agile, fast-paced environment.

Research Engineer - Machine Perception Systems Responsibilities


  • Work with researchers to develop novel sensors and compute systems based on computer vision and machine learning.

  • Bring up new devices and lead performance tuning exercises that span across hardware/firmware/software teams

  • Debug complex, system-level, multi-component issues that typically span across multiple layers from sensor to application

  • Port/optimize software/firmware components to low power embedded processors.

  • Responsible for contributing to system improvements to optimize power consumption, reduce latency or other system level performance.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3+ years of engineering experience in building complex prototypes involving multiple HW and SW components.

  • Experience with rapid prototyping and disciplined software development processes in C/C++.

  • Experience in cooperating with cross-functional teams


Preferred Qualifications


  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience working autonomously, handling concurrent projects where timelines may be ambiguous or changing, and prioritizing by balancing required effort with resulting impact.

  • 5+ years experience with C/C++ software development for HW devices including embedded systems.

  • Experience of implementation/porting of machine perception algorithms on resource constrained HW.

  • Technical knowledge across a range of XR device level topics including camera/sensor calibration, timestamping, latency and power measurement.

  • Proven understanding of imaging and inertial measurement sensors technologies.

$85.10/hour to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
