THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN.

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of faculty researcher, the Research Lab and Facility Manager independently collaboratives and executes various tasks related to physical activity and metabolism research, as well as translational and clinical research within the OBGYN field. The primary responsibilities include Management of Scholarly Activities: Oversee and support all scholarly activities associated with the Physical Activity and Metabolism (PAM) Lab. Grant-Funded Project Management: Manage and support grant-funded projects linked to the PAM Lab or awarded to the Department of OBGYN.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manages, plans, maintains, coordinates, implements, and carries out all phases of research projects and related activities in the Physical Activity and Metabolism Lab.
  2. Writes new standard operating procedures, lab/facility procedures and/or processes, or modifies existing standard operating procedures after consulting the supervisor.
  3. Provides work direction, training, and orientation to study staff and may supervise others; instructs and trains on the safe and proper use of specialized equipment and materials.
  4. Manages lab/facility resources and coordinates maintenance and coordinates daily operations of lab/facility; conducts lab-related quality assurance and control, compliance activities.
  5. Manages clinical and/or translational research or scholarly activity projects in the PAM Lab and/or that are funded and/or affiliated with the Department of OBGYN.
  6. Organizes recruitment/screening/consenting/coordinating of research participants and trains others affiliated with the Lab/Department of OBGYN in these processes.
  7. Assists investigators with the collection and submission process for initial Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions including the collection of hospital collaboration agreements, key personnel documents, department approvals, funding source information, and IRB application completion and upload into iMedRIS.
  8. Collects and interprets data to support research activities; manages data and databases and assists with data cleaning and analysis.
  9. Assists investigator with screening potential subjects, reviewing and documenting patient medical histories and concurrent medication lists, obtaining informed consent from patients, coordinating study visits and procedures to be completed on campus, collecting study data, and performing study assessments if needed (lab draws, questionnaires, vital signs, etc.) for Investigator-Initiated Studies.
  10. Establishes and maintains contact with study participants and families, community agencies, and health care providers.
  11. Compiles reports, contributes to publications, writes abstracts for scientific conferences, and prepares posters for presentations.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Science, Health Science, Wellness, Education, Public Health, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of relevant research and/or clinical training in a research, clinical, and/or academic setting; OR Associate's Degree and four (4) years of relevant research and/or clinical training in a research, clinical, and/or academic setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to equal six (6) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of research or lab equipment/materials/processes/procedures related to lab/facility or clinical operations.
  • Ability to problem solve, manage multiple priorities and projects, and work with diverse populations (including pregnant people and patients with cancer).
  • Knowledge of research experimentation, observation, documentation, and data collection techniques.
  • Ability to quickly learn how to use lab equipment and appropriately handle biohazardous and research materials, and processes related to lab/facility operations, including safety and compliance protocols.
  • Ability to quickly learn additional clinical and/or translational research principles and protocols needed to perform studies in Women's Health/OBGYN and/or Neonatology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn how to interpret and apply federal, state, local, and university regulations and requirements, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to provide training for students and other trainees on research projects and help manage and play a leadership role in multiple projects in the field of Women's Health/OBGYN and/or Neonatology.
  • Ability to effectively work within and/or lead aspects of multidisciplinary, diverse teams on scholarly activity.


WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
