Job Summary
Research Laboratory Specialist Intermediate Position with an 18 month term limit in the field of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) radiochemistry to perform research in the areas of radiochemistry methodology, radiopharmaceutical development, and PET imaging. Successful candidates will join a multi-disciplinary team of chemists, physicians, physicists and biologists in the University of Michigan Medical School, investigating new methods of radiolabeling small molecules for the in vivo imaging of human biochemistry. The ability to perform multi-step organic syntheses and characterize products are a must. Excellent written and communication skills are also essential. Additional experience with cGMP, HPLC, micro-scale reactions, fluorine chemistry, radiochemistry preclinical PET imaging are considered a plus, but not essential, as extensive training will be provided. Some background in biology, biochemistry or pharmacology would also be beneficial. Hands on experience with the incorporation of fluorine-18, carbon-11, copper-64 and gallium-68 is strongly preferred, including experience with the generation of radionuclides (from cyclotrons and/or gallium generators) and the synthesis, purification and quality control of PET radiotracers. Responsibilities will include synthesis of bioactive molecules and radiochemistry precursors; labeling with carbon-11, fluorine-18, gallium-68, copper-64 radionuclides; optimization of reactions, including with machine learning, purification, characterization and formulation of radiotracers for clinical and pre-clinical research collaborations in neurology and oncology.

Experience contributing to regulatory filings such as INDs and (A)NDAs. PhD degree in chemistry (or equivalent) and 3+ years of experience in PET radiochemistry or quality control/quality assurance.
Desired Qualifications*
PhD degree and 4 to 5 years related experience; but can be substituted with equivalent education and/or experience. Experience with cGMP, HPLC, micro-scale reactions, antibody labeling, quality control analysis, transition metal and/or fluorine chemistry, are considered a plus, but not essential.

Additional Information
This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the term, the appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
