Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, full-time Research Laboratory Technician Associate or Intermediate in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology. The Allen laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of Hedgehog signaling during embryonic and postnatal development, as well as adult tissue homeostasis, renewal and repair. We also seek to understand the contributions of aberrant Hedgehog signaling to birth defects and developmental diseases, as well as pediatric and adult cancers. The successful candidate will play essential roles in managing portions of the laboratory mouse colony (animal husbandry), support daily lab operations and perform scientific procedures under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities*
  • Oversee a portion of the laboratory mouse colony, including handling, breeding and genotyping various mouse lines.
  • Conduct routine lab tasks, such as stocking reagents, preparing chemical solutions, ordering lab supplies, maintaining laboratory equipment, and record keeping.
  • Perform mouse tissue/organ dissections and processing for further analysis.
  • Establish and maintain mammalian cell cultures, including passaging, freezing and validation of various cell lines.
  • Prepare and present scientific data.
  • Participate in lab meetings and journal club discussions.

Required Qualifications*

Research Lab Tech Associate:
  • HS Diploma or Assoc Degree is required.
  • 0-1 years experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that will contribute to a collegial and collaborative working environment.
  • Available to work occasionally on weekends.

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years experience required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Prior laboratory research experience in a biomedically-relevant field.
  • Prior experience with mouse animal husbandry.
  • Proficiency in various scientific techniques, including PCR, western blotting, cell culture, mouse tissue dissection and processing, cryo-sectioning, immunostaining, in situ hybridization and microscopy.
