Summary

The Huang Laboratory is looking to hire a Research Lab Technician to manage our growing Interstitial Lung Disease Biorepository and be on the forefront of cutting-edge research in lung disease. Located in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School, our laboratory studies how epigenetic modifications contribute to the development of pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic lung diseases. We obtain lung tissue from patients with pulmonary fibrosis and healthy controls from Gift of Life, Michigan. We study how fibroblasts and other cell types acquire changes in DNA methylation to contribute to lung fibrosis. It is expected that 50-60% effort will be devoted to helping organize and maintain our growing biorepository. This involves updating and maintaining databases and processing biospecimens when they arrive. Preparation of lung tissue will involve digestion, cell isolation, positive and negative cell selection, cell culture, and generation of precision-cut lung slices. For the other 40% effort, the research lab technician will be expected to help plan and set up experiments using patient-derived cells, run assays including immunoblot, PCR, immunofluorescence/histochemistry, and learn techniques for epigenetic analysis including bisulfite sequencing and chromatin immunoprecipitation. The technician will be expected to collect and organize data and share findings with the PI. We strive to be diverse, inclusive, and respectful to all members of the research community.
