Job Summary

The Goforth Laboratory within the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking a full-time Research Laboratory Technician to join our team. Our research uses rodent models and a variety of techniques to examine the mechanisms underlying food intake and reward seeking. We are in need of a research assistant to perform live cell imaging experiments in brain slices and assist with general lab activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience with live cell fluorescence imaging and prior work with animals. Exceptional trouble-shooting capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential. We value scientific curiosity and work as a collaborative team.

Responsibilities*
  • Conducting ex vivo fluorescence measurements in brain slices
  • Immunohistochemistry and microscopy
  • Data analysis
  • Day-to-day support of lab activities including ordering and maintaining of supplies and maintenance of equipment

Required Qualifications*

Senior level:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Engineering, or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of related laboratory research experience

Intermediate level:
  • High school diploma or Associate's degree in Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years of laboratory research experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience conducting ex vivo calcium imaging
  • Experience conducting rodent behavioral experiments
  • Willingness to learn multiple techniques
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, GraphPad Prism.
