Summary
  • This Pediatric Research Navigator will be a member of the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital Scholars Academy (BBCH SA). The BBCH SA supports MaineHealth pediatric healthcare professionals with the resources needed to conduct research, quality improvement, educational and advocacy projects to address pediatric healthcare gaps and advance knowledge.

    This role collaborates with principal investigators, research coordinators, the MaineHealth Office of Research Ethics and Compliance, pediatric program staff and research leaders, MaineHealth member and affiliate institutions, and community partners to support project goals.

    Primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:
    • Support of The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital Scholarship Academy (BBCH SA) members and their scholarly projects
    • Mentorship to clinicians scholars throughout the project conceptualization phase including literature reviews, identifying institutional resources, identifying data sources and potential collaborators and developing the research question.
    • Grant support and management including advisement on potential funding sources, assistance with the application process, liaison between collaborators and MHIR grants office
    • Advisement during study design period including protocol and supplemental study document creation, recruitment processes, facilitation of submissions to the MaineHealth Institutional Review Board for new studies, study amendments, reportable events and continuing reviews
    • Study coordination including data entry, data management, ensuring studies meet local compliance and federal regulations, internal auditing and managing regulatory documentation.
    • Develop training for clinician scholars and onboarding of new investigators into the Academy
    • Assist with the dissemination of project findings through providing advice on publications, potential journals, writing assistance and/or editing, submission of abstracts and manuscripts.
    Preferred skills for this role include:
    • Excellent communication, organization, and coordination skills in order to manage many projects simultaneously
    • Knowledge of the coordinator tasks across study cycle
    • High degree of computer literacy, including competency in Microsoft Office Suite, electronic data capture systems (e.g. RedCap), IRB submission platforms, and electronic health record systems (e.g. EPIC)
    • Self-motivated
    • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to independently resolve problems
    • Certified in CITI Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Protection
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other BBCH SA faculty (Directors, Research Coordinators, Data Analysts) and members of the BBCH SA
    2+ year commitment preferred

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Master's in Relevant field (PhD preferred) and 2-3 years experience in relevant field.
    • License/Certification: N/A
    • Experience: 2 3 years experience in relevant field
    • Ability to educate learners in all aspects of research.
    • Extensive knowledge of statistical principles and methods, and proficiency with computers, databases and computer based analysis packages for research (R preferred).
    • Ability to function independently, and facilitate projects through all phases of development and implementation.
