The School of Nursing at Texas A&M University is seeking a faculty member with experience in aerospace nursing and extreme environments for a full-time (non-tenure track) appointment in Bryan, Texas. The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment with a potential summer contract, beginning in August 2024. Applicants will be considered for the titles of Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, or Research Professor depending on experience and qualifications. Rank and salary are commensurate with credentials and experience.
The School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Traditional, Second degree, and RN to BSN), MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN-Nursing Education, MSN-Forensic Nursing, DNP, graduate certificate in Forensic Health Care and PMHNP post-graduate certificate. Future plans include a PhD program, an Aerospace Nursing and Extreme Environment Health Care program, and additional graduate and post-graduate certificate programs. We are a growing school within Texas A&M University with programs located in Bryan, Texas (primary location), Round Rock, Texas and a new campus location in McAllen is planned for Spring 2026.
The School of Nursing is one of five schools that comprise the Texas A&M Health Science Center. Drawing from our vast network of scientists, educators, and clinical partners, we educate highly qualified graduates who are equipped to address the health needs of an ever-changing population in Texas, the nation, and the world. As a research-intensive position at a Tier One research university, academic rank is commensurate with the candidate's prior experience and record. We offer a competitive salary and benefits. Consideration will be given to applicants with a strong potential for, or growing, extramurally funded research programs. Candidates are expected to continue the development of or growth of their program of research and seek external funding while teaching and mentoring both students and fellow faculty. The role will play a significant role in contributing to the growing research, scholarship, and outreach of the school.
Responsibilities include:
Research/Scholarship
All research track faculty are expected to generate and disseminate new knowledge consistent with rank. General expectations include active participation in research and scholarship, and dissemination through publications/presentations. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following research activities:
Service
All faculty are expected to participate in service activities to the University, the school, and to the profession. Additionally, engagement in community service opportunities are encouraged.
The anticipated start date 8/1/2024.
Qualifications
Required Education:
Earned PhD or DNP degree in nursing or in a related field with at least one graduate degree in nursing.
Required Experience:
Experience in research methodology and advanced statistical coursework, and professional peer reviewed publications in the areas of aerospace nursing and extreme environments as a lead or co-lead author.
Experience in research methodology, advanced statistical coursework, and professional peer reviewed publications as lead author or co-author in the areas aerospace nursing, extreme environments, and policy implications. Research experience related to conducting and disseminating nursing research primarily focused on aerospace nursing and extreme environments. Experience with complex, multivariate data analysis, literature synthesis, and ability to write scientific articles and report findings commensurate with a doctoral degree.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Post-doctoral education preferred. Successful completion of a one-year post-doctoral fellowship is preferred.
Required Registrations:
Candidate must be eligible for a Texas RN and/or APRN license depending upon credentials.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Ability to lead as well as to function as a strong collaborator on interprofessional teams.
Highly organized.
Professional demeanor.
Ability to multi-task and establish effective working relationships.
Knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of the Land Grant University System.

- Assists with and provides scientific direction for research studies relevant to aerospace nursing and extreme environment health care;
- Provides independent contribution to the development of original research proposals as co-investigator or principal investigator;
- Secure salary support derived from successful grant funding;
- Supervises research personnel;
- Plans and executes research studies;
- Conducts advanced statistical analysis;
- Prepares and submits manuscripts for publication;
- Composes and presents research at conferences;
- Collaborates on interdisciplinary projects;
- Provides scholarship and research mentoring support to School of Nursing investigators in order to expand and advance the School's research portfolio.
Service
