Job Summary:

A position is available in the Neural Engineering Core of the NeuroTechnology Center. The Neural Engineering Core provides a range of engineering support to research programs in neuroscience and other fields at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. We seek an individual with a background in engineering, and particularly with experience in software development, data analysis and data management, to lead and assist on multiple projects. The hiree will work with multiple members of the Core and report to Gidon Felsen (Director, NTC Neural Engineering Core and Professor, Department of Physiology and Biophysics). Eagerness and ability to quickly learn new concepts, and to work well within multiple teams, are highly important.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with researchers to design data analyses
  • Working with Core members to integrate custom software and hardware.
  • Creating and managing data storage and analysis pipelines, including cloud-based applications
  • Providing operational supporting assessment of needs, acquisition and purchasing of software, equipment and materials, tracking time and costs, and invoicing for projects

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • One (1) years of experience in an experimental, research or engineering environment


Senior Level

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental, research or engineering environment


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

All Levels:

  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing


Intermediate Professional Level:

  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental, research or engineering environment


Senior Professional Level:

  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental, research or engineering environment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Coding experience (python, Matlab, C)
  • Experience with database management
  • Experience with cloud storage and computation
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers and/or embedded systems (e.g., Arduino)

Intermediate Professional $55,352 - $74,171

Senior Professional $59,840 - $80,185

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
