The Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology invites applications for a Research Scientist II position. The Department has a history of conducting both basic and applied research in mineral processing, metals extraction, and recycling. The successful candidate will be responsible for (i) designing and executing experimental research, (ii) advising student researchers, (iii) disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific conference presentations, and (iv) contributing to the identification and preparation of funding proposals.
A PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or closely related field is required. The applicant should have expertise in advanced metal separation and concentration techniques including electrochemical and hydrometallurgical processing to recover and recycle critical resources. The applicant should also have expertise in advanced chemical characterization of metallurgical systems.
