Research Scientist Responsibilities


  • Utilize technical research background, train new ranking models, and run experiments.

  • Create tools for migrating large bodies of user data across systems for new products, scalability efforts, and development of research infrastructure.

  • Use machine learning, statistics, or other data techniques to build algorithms.

  • Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Designing and executing empirical research projects that identify the causal effects of on-platform interventions

  • re-analyzing and synthesizing existing evidence from political science, economics, psychology, human-computer interaction, sociology, and other fields

  • and evaluating existing internal tools for empirical validation.

  • Provide exceptional, self-driven research with an ability to not only identify critical question, but also work across teams and backgrounds to execute research of special interest to company leadership.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Requires a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field. Requires completion of a university-level course, research project, internship, or thesis in the following:

  • 1. Algorithms, data structures, or systems software

  • 2. Solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches

  • 3. Gathering, manipulating, or analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources

  • 4. Communicating complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

  • 5. Research in topics closely related to machine learning, NLP, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, signal processing, data mining, artificial intelligence, information retrieval, or computer vision

  • 6. Devising better data-driven models of human behavior

  • 7. Developing highly scalable classifiers and tools leveraging machine learning, statistics, regression, rules-based models, or mathematical models

  • 8. R

  • 9. Counterfactual reasoning: causal inference and econometrics

  • 10. Familiarity with emerging methods for evaluating empirical claims, including awareness of measurement and valuation methods

  • 11. Designing survey instruments and weighting estimates to derive representative results.
