Job Description
RESEARCH SCIENTIST, IN SITU SINGLE MOLECULE PROTEIN SEQUENCING, McGovern Institute for Brain Research - Synthetic Neurobiology/Boyden Lab , to join a lab that develops cutting-edge methods for mapping, analyzing, and controlling the brain. Will report to the director of the Synthetic Neurobiology group and develop new chemistry and chemical engineering protocols, requiring synthetic and analytical chemistry and/or chemical engineering skills, for single molecule protein sequencing; and adapt, optimize, and validate new expansion microscopy (ExM) variants so that such sequencing procedures can occur in situ. Will be involved in the design and development of such chemical and chemical engineering technologies as well as validation--collaborating with others--of the developed technologies using optical imaging, fluorescence microscopy, and super-resolution imaging; help teach and deploy such technologies into collaborating labs; assist with grant and manuscript writing; and help collaborating students and postdocs with their research.
Job Requirements
R EQUIRED : Ph.D. degree in biotechnology, biology, neuroscience, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field; at least three years of experience with synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., HPLC, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, enzyme assays, NMR, FTIR); good judgment; attention to detail; excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, documentation, communication, and time-management skills; self-motivation and ability to work independently; and ability to work as part of a tightly-knit team. PREFERRED : expertise with optical imaging, fluorescence microscopy, and super-resolution imaging; and protein design and chemistry experience. Job #23206
