The Beirne-Carter Immunology Center at the University of Virginia seeks to fill two Research Scientists positions to perform sophisticated experimental research in the areas of mucosal immunity, lung injury, recovery and chronic disease development following infection. The successful candidates must have experience in murine respiratory viral infection models; in vivo immune signaling experiments, analysis of mouse lung immune composition by flow cytometry and single cell RNA-seq; and culture of primary macrophages, dendritic cells, T and B cells. The qualified applicants should have research experience on lung function measurement and quantification of tissue pathology in mice are preferred. Experiences in characterization of pulmonary and blood immune compositions using spectral flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and single cell RNA-seq are also preferred

Further, the incumbents will be responsible for generating abstracts and manuscripts of sufficient quality to be published in high impact journals and for supervising undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Requirement:

Education: Requires a doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD, or equivalent degree in a relative scientific field of study by appointment start date, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven grant writing skills is also important (e.g., post-doctoral awards and/or submitted PI-level grants).

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
