Summary

Research Specialist II

The Cancer Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Core (CPPC) at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute aims to provide a broad spectrum of high quality and cost-effective services including in vitro ADME and PK, physicochemical profiling, bioanalytical method development, analysis of drugs and metabolites in bodily fluids and tissues, as well as PD endpoints quantification for preclinical and early phase clinical trials.

Position Highlights:


  • The Research Specialist II (RSII) will be responsible for independently performing specialized assays on pre-clinical and clinical samples for drug quantitation and molecular endpoints.

  • The RSII position will support a full line of services offered by the core along with maintaining routine laboratory functions in a team environment.



The Ideal Candidate:


  • Outstanding pipetting skills including mastery of plate-based assays using multi-channel pipettes.

  • The skillset to perform primary laboratory duties, such as maintaining cell line cultures, biological sample processing (specifically mononuclear cell separation), experience in working with biological fluids (blood, serum, urine, etc.) and working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

  • Working knowledge of automated liquid handlers, luminescent/fluorescence technologies, HPLC instrumentation, and Mass Spectrometry.

  • Research experience in in vitro testing of chemotherapeutics including viability, cytotoxicity, and apoptosis assays.

  • Strong experience in cellular extractions and multiplex immunoassays such as Luminex and Electrochemiluminescence assays is desirable.

  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the customers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



Responsibilities:


  • Handling and processing cell dissociation and enrichment (e.g., ficoll and antibody labeled magnetic bead enrichment) on human liquid and solid tissue specimens.

  • Perform drug response assays and immuno/chemical enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA).

  • Maintain and process cell line cultures and peripheral blood monocular cells in a sterile environment.

  • Apply scientific technique to processing procedures for biological sample preparation (protein-protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction and solid phase extraction) for HPLC methodologies.

  • Must be able to perform with minimal supervision, strong ability to multi-task, and adhere to project timelines.



Credentials and Qualifications:


  • BA/BS in related scientific field with three (3) years' experience in science related field and at least one (1) year in core specific applications is required OR



BA/BS in related scientific field with two (2) years' experience in science related field with two (2) years in core specific applications


  • Experience should include include PBMC isolation, ELISA, multiplex immunoassays, HPLC, and LC-MS/MS.



Preferred Experience


  • MA/MS in related scientific field with a minimum of one (1) year experience in core specific applications.

  • Research-based experience preferred. Core specific licensure and/or certifications required.

  • Annual Human Subjects Training, i.e., CITI required.

  • Hands-on experience with basic laboratory and scientific methods.




  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
