Job Summary:

The Colorado School of Public Health is hiring up to three individuals as a Research Specialist. These positions are part of the school's Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes (LEAD) Center and will support data collection for multiple studies, including the Healthy Start Moms Study, Diabetes Prevention Program Outcome Study (DPPOS), and ENRICH. These studies include a mix of clinical trials, observational longitudinal cohort studies, and pilot studies on topics associated with maternal health, environmental exposures, obesity, Alzheimer's/dementia, and diabetes.

Research Specialists will be trained and certified in data collection procedures for several research protocols to complete clinic visits with study participants. Visit procedures will include obtaining informed consent, blood collection, anthropometric measurements, physical assessments, neurocognitive assessments, administration of questionnaires, medical record abstraction, and data entry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform informed consent process/ensure that process has occurred, is properly documented, and filed as required.
  • Collect biospecimens via venipuncture, urine biospecimens, and physical measurements for study participants.
  • Administer health-related questionnaires to study participants; conduct cognitive and physical assessments according to study protocols.
  • Coordinate recruitment of participants and logistics of study visits and program events.
  • Enter data from visit forms into a secure electronic database; document, organize, and synthesize data collection procedures as outlined in the manual of operations.
  • Ensure that the necessary supplies and equipment for studies are in stock and in working order; attend study meetings and trainings as required.
  • These positions will range from part-time (0.5 FTE) to full-time (1.0 FTE) depending on project needs and candidate availability. Each position reports to the Project Manager of the study they are primarily working on.

Onsite - This role is expected to work onsite and is located on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

The LEAD Center represents a collaboration between the ColoradoSPH and the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. The LEAD Center is a multidisciplinary research center that investigates and seeks to understand the developmental origins of health and disease, particularly obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the complex interplay of environmental exposures, genetic and epigenetic processes in critical developmental periods in across the lifecourse.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Professional:

  • A bachelor's in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.


Intermediate Professional:

  • A bachelor's in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.


One (1) year of professional level experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of epidemiology, environmental health, or chronic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes.
  • Experience working with pregnant people, infants, and children OR geriatric populations.
  • Experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap, EMR or HER, and data management systems).
  • Bilingual English and Spanish speaking.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting target salary for this position has been established as:

Entry Professional: $50,000 - $55,000 (1.0 FTE)

Intermediate Professional: $54,000 - $64,000 (1.0 FTE)

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
