Summary

The Research Technician I position is solely based in the lab and will be a full time research position. When required, the technician will interact with patient families for consenting patients to a study. The Research Technician will support all aspects of the research in the Laboratory for Regenerative Tissue Repair that focuses on studying mechanisms of regenerative tissue repair and fibrosis in multiple organ systems including skin, kidney, heart and lung. The key roles of the successful technician will be to help in murine surgical models, and undertake immuno-histological staining and genomic and proteomic studies of wound tissue biopsies. In addition, the technician will support studies related to primary patient-derived cell isolation. The technician will be responsible for data collection, analysis and presentation in the form of figures for manuscripts and abstracts and talks at local, regional and national meetings. This technician will support grant submissions as well, and will support the preparation and submission of scientific and review articles. Excellent oral and written communication skills are desirable.

Job Duties

  • Works closely with the senior research technicians and fellows in the lab, and be responsible for general lab maintenance and maintenance of mice colony and documentation of the surgical procedures.
  • Participates in RNA and protein isolation from tissue specimens. Isolates, cultures and expands skin and kidney cells. Uses state of the art facilities and equipment in flow cytometry.
  • Helps in histological staining and immuno-histochemical staining and will be part of these studies.
  • Uses real time functional imaging and imaging mass cytometry to characterize the tissue repair responses.
  • Assembles and uses flex cell apparatus, bioreactors and other surgical equipment for the application of mechanical forces to cells and wounds.
  • Collects data, analyses and presents in the form of figures for manuscripts and abstracts and talks at local, regional and national meetings.
  • Supports grant submissions as well, and will support the preparation and submission of scientific and review articles.
  • Evaluates and assesses genomic and proteomic data from the tissue biopsies.
  • Works in a lab environment that consists of multi groups working in a shared space.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Cell Biology or related field in the life sciences.
  • Experience either as a student helper or intern in a wet lab in biological sciences will be a plus.
  • Prior working knowledge with the assays and applications is desirable.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills and has the ability to work across cross-functional teams will be important.
  • Be detailed oriented, with a knack for time and resource management is critical.
  • Experience working with large datasets, that includes preparing PCA plots, volcano plots and pathway analysis is desirable.
