Job Summary

The Research Technician is immediately available for a candidate to participate in launching a new centralized biorepository initiative in the Department of Dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. We are looking for a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented candidate with basic wet-lab knowledge interested in gaining practical experience in translational research. The technician will have the opportunity to collaborate with several individual investigators within the department to collect, process, and manage patient samples for existing biorepositories. Ideal candidates will be motivated to learn new skills and techniques. The successful candidate will be working with a highly collaborative, dynamic, and mutually respectful team.

Laboratory Expectations

• Process and preserve tissue, blood, and cell specimen samples collected from patients seen by providers in the department.

• Establish standard protocols for sample collection and processing.

• Assist with Institutional Review Board protocol submission and maintenance and contribute to writing grants and manuscripts related to the centralized biorepository.

• Primary cell isolation and tissue culture.

Experience and Education

• Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or

• Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. or

• High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.

Job Duties

• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.

• Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.

• Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.

• Assists in collection of data for project reports.

• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.

• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
