Job Summary

The Anesthesiology Department in the Pain Management has an opening for a Research Technician II to join the team. This position will work under Principal Investigator, Amol Patwardhan, MD, and his research team to participate in three main areas of focus: the Mechanism of actions of Contulakin-G, Markers for chronic back pain, and Human implantable devices. Upcoming clinical outcomes human subject research and translational science will require patient interaction for patient study enrollment, measuring and collecting research related data, and management of study materials.

The ideal applicant should enjoy assisting with laboratory experiments and data acquisition. Applicant work will entail complex problems requiring extensive knowledge in CAD, electrical, mechanical, and biological systems. Must be knowledgeable performing device-based research using biological parameters with a range of values to achieve desired outcomes for management of human pain. The applicant may also shadow Dr. Patwardhan in the clinical setting by observing during clinical appointments and/or surgeries. The applicant should be positive and adaptable. The schedule requires flexible shifts that may follow in-hospital care of surgical patients. The applicant should have strong organizational skills and be able to multi-task, prioritize and communicate well with Dr. Patwardhan and other research team members, study subjects and the broader clinical and research community. This position will require work to be performed 100% on campus.

The applicant should be familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and be able to learn database use quickly regarding REDCap, with knowledge of other database structures being a plus. Other responsibilities will include assistance with document creation, meeting and team coordination, ability to accurately abstract data, enter data into study databases, and perform data analysis.

Experience and Education

• Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required.

• Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.

• High school graduation or GED and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.

Job Duties

• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.

• Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.

• Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.

• Assists in collection of data for project reports.

• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.

• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Work requires working knowledge of various types of equipment used in laboratory to which assigned.

• Work requires precision in preparing material and recording data.

• Work requires exercise of considerable judgment in application and interpretation of policy, procedures, or practices to work problems.
