The Mimche Lab performs research focused on elucidating the roles of the axonal guidance cue Eph/Ephrin system in tissue inflammation and fibrogenesis across various organs including the liver, skin, lung, heart, and kidney. The goal is to develop therapy for the treatment of fibrotic diseases

Job Summary

This research position in the Department of Dermatology will be part of a team that performs research aimed at deciphering the biological processes that promote pathological tissue inflammation and fibrosis.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Performs research experiments in genetic manipulation in mice.
  • Plans, conducts, and analyzes results of research experiments.
  • Performs technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.
  • Records observations and measurements and reports results.
  • May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • May assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials, ordering and stocking of materials and equipment, and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed.
  • Performs PCR, histology and other molecular procedures using laboratory equipment.
  • Monitors and assists with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.
  • Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
  • Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
  • May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • May train junior-level staff.
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.
Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred
  • Experience with maintaining and breeding a large mouse colony, including PCR genotyping and record keeping
  • 2 years of experience with maintaining and breeding a mouse colony

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
