Position Summary: This position provides supportive, recovery-oriented interaction and monitoring of individuals with substance use and co-occurring needs, residing in the WCS Recovery House.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor resident and guest activity to ensure safety at the Recovery House.
  • Make hourly rounds to monitor the environment of the Recovery House.
  • Act as a role model for residents and guests.
  • Interact with residents in a recovery focused, strength based, trauma informed, and person-centered manner.
  • Conduct regular wellness checks to ensure resident safety.
  • Document all resident contacts and incidents in the resident's file.
  • Use verbal de-escalation techniques (Vistelar), intervene as necessary to prevent harmful situations or behaviors from escalating.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, Strength-Based Recovery as primary skills/tools to enhance resident's participation and success.
  • Record and relay resident inquiries to Program Manager.
  • Responsible for responding to general inquiries (phone and door).
  • Responsible for greeting guests and keeping check-in and check-out log.
  • Maintain the security of the building and the sanitation of the building to ensure security and safety of all residents, staff, and public.
  • Communicate (timely and accurately) all resident and facilities incidents to Program Manager.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADL) as needed.
  • Notify Program Manager of any emergencies and contact as needed.

Job Qualifications:
Minimal Qualifications and Salary Schedule:
  • High School diploma/equivalency required
  • No less than 1 year of experience serving adults with substance use and co-occurring needs. Additional education may substitute for some experience.
  • Must be able to pass an agency background check, drug test, and caregiver background check.

Work Relationship and Scope:

Reports directly to Program Manager and Interacts and maintains good working relationship with WCS staff, residents, guests and the general public.

Ability to work in a diverse setting interacting with individuals with substance use and mental health needs. Must have the ability to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision but must be a strong team player as well. Ability to multi-task, take initiative and apply knowledge to variety of circumstances.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed primarily in a transitional living setting with individuals residing at the Recovery House; individuals will be in substance use recovery and may have mental health needs.

Work week varies based on program needs; first, second shift, evenings and rotating weekend coverage is required.

Physical Demands:

Work activities involve movement within the Recovery House. Staff are required to go up and down stairs and lift/carry 20 pounds. Staff are responsible for general upkeep in the common areas of the building and can expect to assist residents with light housekeeping duties as needed.
