Job Summary

This position is a Principal Project Engineer in the Bemidji Resident Office. This position exists to serve as the Engineer on Record to administer construction projects, with the assistance of Project Engineers, Project Supervisors and Project Inspectors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions. This will ensure that the construction projects will be built safely on time, on budget, and will comply with all terms of the contract. This position will report to the District 2 Engineer Senior Admin for Program Delivery.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for Engineer Principal, applicants must meet all the following:
  • Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
  • Three (3) years of post-registration engineering experience at the Engineer Senior level (or equivalent) that demonstrates all the following:
    • Knowledge of project scoping and cost estimating and risk assessment process.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years recent experience in contract administration in highway construction.
  • Recent experience with alternative contract delivery methods.
  • Experience facilitating or participating in partnering meetings and meetings to resolve conflicts.
  • Supervisory skills sufficient to enforce and communicate MnDOT's policies, personnel rules and collective bargaining agreements. This includes the ability to provide alternative or combined skills in developing, collaborating with, persuading, motivating and leading other people as well as managing conflict and staff.
