GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

HYBRID Schedule: Remote Tuesdays and Thursdays and every other Friday.

The Depression Clinical and Research Program (DCRP):

The DCRP conducts leading-edge research in the area of depression, with a focus on testing novel antidepressant treatments and developing new tools to understand the biological changes that occur in this condition. The clinical program delivers care outside of the research setting to people with depressive disorders. The program provides patient evaluations and follow-up care, as well as one-time consultations and second opinions.

Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders and Complicated Grief Program (CATSD):

The psychiatrists and psychologists on staff in the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders (CATSD) and Complicated Grief Program at Massachusetts General Hospital explore the causes and treatments for a variety of anxiety-related disorders and seek to also learn more about the underlying causes and course of these disorders. The research studies conducted by the CATSD provide the opportunity for staff and patients to work together on identifying and developing new treatment methods for these anxiety-related disorders.

The Resource Specialist for CATSD and DCRP will function within the ambulatory practice as clinical support to the physicians and psychologists, thereby allowing them to provide high-quality, effective and efficient care to their patients. The Resource Specialist will also work in conjunction with the Administrative Coordinator for the Unit, assisting with various administrative tasks as needed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Resource Specialist is responsible for assisting with the following areas for DCRP outpatients seen in clinical practice: Referrals for partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs; referrals for group or individual psychotherapy or other specialty treatment; referrals to visiting nurses, community support programs, and Department of Mental Health case managers. Assists in facilitating inpatient hospitalization, when not requiring Emergency Department evaluation. Facilitates transfer of care to other mental health programs as needed.

Maintains updated database of patient resources. Obtains authorizations for the release of information to request outside medical records. Composes letters and processes paperwork regarding disability, jury duty, work, school, loans, etc. with input from clinicians. With clinical supervision, meets with patients regarding housing, community resources, insurance, and self-pay estimates.

Coordinates new DCRP and CATSD consults and new patient inquiries and referrals. Conducts phone intakes and triages new patients to clinicians as availability allows. Obtains information from referring clinicians and other medical providers. Returns voicemail calls from prospective patients looking for treatment on behalf of clinicians.

Processes medication refill requests and prior authorizations for patients with clinical input from psychiatrists. Obtains insurance authorizations for behavioral health services and assists in answering patient insurance questions. Helps troubleshoot and resolve billing issues.

Works with DCRP and CATSD support staff as backup to cover front desk duties and other administrative duties as needed.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:
