To provide direct instructional support to teachers of culturally and linguistically diverse students in bilingual education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Provides direct instruction to bilingual, ESL and general education teachers in best practices for students in bilingual programs.
  • Provides demonstration lessons for teachers as appropriate.
  • Provides assistance to school staffs in the development, implementation and assessment of bilingual language curriculum.
  • Serves on district committees and task forces as designated by the supervisor.
  • Assists teachers in identified programs with the development of bilingual literacy.

  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
  • Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students.
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
  • Valid NM Teacher's Level II or Level III license appropriate to teaching assignment
    • 200 K-8 for Elementary
    • 350 5-9 for Middle-Level
    • 300 6-12 Secondary for middle and high school
  • Five or more years of experience teaching students in K-12.
