Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Department Supervisor (s) and/or the Associate Director, the Respiratory Therapy Aide carries out all duties outlined in "Duties & Responsibilities" section listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Disassembles, cleans and, upon removal from mechanical ventilators, prepares and delivers Temperature probes to Central Sterile Department for sterilization.
2. Adheres to all hospital policies, rules and regulations, including but not limited to, absenteeism, lateness, cellular telephone usage, dress code and rules of conduct.
3. Collects and transports malfunctioning equipment to Biomedical Engineering Department for repair, service and/or maintenance.
4. Maintains medical gas cylinder storage room in an orderly manner and places cylinders in designated areas.
5. Stores and handles medical cylinders designated inpatient and outpatient areas according to NFPA guidelines.
6. Stores and handles all medical gas cylinders in accordance with local and state regulations.
7. Keeps current Fire Department Certificate of Fitness (G-46/G-71).
8. Delivers RT equipment and supplies to Respiratory Therapists assigned to patient care areas.
9. Delivers medical gas cylinders to and from Respiratory Practitioners and storage areas.
10. Recognizes and reports potential safety hazards.
11. Keeps up-to-date inventory of Respiratory Therapy Equipment and Supplies necessary to deliver patient care.
12. Keeps up-to-date log of the status Respiratory Therapy Equipment as it relates to "Stand-By" equipment necessary for critical care units and special procedure areas.
13. Follows published department Infection Control policies for cleaning and disinfecting Respiratory Therapy Equipment.
14. Complies with Infection Control standards and follows policy and procedure for Hand Washing.
15. Aware of his/her role as it relates to hospital Cardiopulmonary Emergency situations.
16. Performs other duties as directed by ARTLII/Assistant Director.
17. Meet all compliance standards/requirements such as annual physical evaluation/assessment, MultiStar training, Right to Know, Fire Drill Participation, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High School graduation or High School Equivalency Diploma, plus one year as a Nurse's Aide or related capacity; or,
2. Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
