Title: Restorative Aide

Job Summary

Responsible for working with residents needing restorative nursing measures to gain or to maintain their highest, possible, practical functioning level. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the restorative plan is implemented through active participation or soliciting participation of other members of care team.

Essential Job Functions

• Provides direct restorative care to residents to maintain or increase their functioning level as established by interdisciplinary team or physician order.

• Follows the plan of care provided by the interdisciplinary care team or physician order.

• Assists resident with feeding, range of motion, reality orientation, communication, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and all daily activity skills and is encouraged in order to maintain current functioning level or return to previous functioning level.

• Assists residents with the bowel and bladder retraining program.

• Coaches and assists regular CNAs in the performance of restorative care. To include providing instruction to C.N.A in the prescribed tasks to be done, demonstrates the correct way to perform restorative care activities, monitors tasks per established schedule and provides assistance in the orientation and development of staff in principles and practices of restorative nursing as directed.

• Documents progress/responses of residents/patients in restorative program per established guidelines, policies, and procedures.

• Prescribed tasks are transferred to restorative flow sheet; resident/patient daily participation is documented accurately on the restorative flow sheet as needed. Progress flow sheet is filed in residents/patient's chart every month.

• Communicates with Restorative LPN and other disciplines and advises the of patient status changes including progress and/or regression so that care plans can be adjusted accordingly.

• Reports any equipment malfunctions or lack of supplies to Restorative LPN or Rehabilitation Services Department.

• Ensures that resident's/patient's rights are adhered to.

• Keeps abreast of new interventions and trends in restorative care.

• Participates in departmental activities, meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines .

Job Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma preferred

• Graduate from a Certified Nursing Assistant Program

• Restorative Aide Certificate preferred

Experience

• Require a minimum of one (1) year of CNA experience

• Prior experience in long term/skilled nursing facility

• 6 months' experience as a Restorative Aide preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification by the Florida State Board of Nursing

• Current America Heart Association BLS Certification

• Restorative training certificate preferred

Abilities required

• Must have knowledge and skills in basic restorative nursing principles and practices.

• Conscientious, cooperative ability to work as a team member.

• Knowledge of the physical, cognitive, and psychological changes occurring in older adults and geriatric residents/patients and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to their ages

• Experience with assistive devices for restorative program (i.e., walkers, belts, rehab equipment, ADL devices).

Functional Demands

Environment /Work Conditions

• Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation

• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; bio-hazardous waste; flammable, explosive gas

• Occasionally exposed to aggressive patients

• Ability to assist transferring patients and ambulation which may involve lifting, pushing, pulling of patients from 50-150 pounds

Infectious Material Exposure:

• Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues
