**Overview**

Join the fast-paced Subsidiary Rights department at HarperCollins! As a Rights Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work on rights across three divisions: HarperCollins Adult, HarperCollins Childrens, and Harlequin. The position reports to the SVP, Rights and Permissions, and affords an opportunity to gain entry into the field of international licensing and book publishing.

**Responsibilities**

+ Assists with the administrative tasks associated with the licensing of subsidiary rights for the HarperCollins Subsidiary Rights Department, consisting of HarperCollins Trade, HarperCollins Childrens, and Harlequin Rights and Permission teams.

+ Assists in the handling of submissions and production requests.

+ Liaises with foreign co-agents, international publishers, literary scouts, and Harper's global offices.

+ Prepares reports and other related documents and provides support on special projects.

+ Responds to rights-related queries from in-house personnel and outside parties.

+ Assists in preparation for annual international book fairs.

+ Handles tax form requests for international publishers.

+ Handles royalty report research and contract renewal reports.

+ Prepares seasonal selling material for sister companies and seasonal rights guides for selling to domestic and international third party publishers.

+ Performs general administrative duties for the department as needed including scheduling meetings with foreign publishers, licensees and subagents.

**Qualifications**

+ 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience

+ Prior experience in publishing or subsidiary rights preferred but not required

+ Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize a large volume of work

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

+ Ability to set priorities under pressure and work independently

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat

+ Passionate about learning the business-side of the publishing industry

+ Interest in licensing and international publishing
