RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Responsible for gathering, analyzing and managing risk management data, and preparing reports to management and outside agencies as required. Participates in the review, investigation and evaluation of actual and potential claims. Serves as a resource to staff and management by participating in committee meetings and safety initiatives. Responsible for risk management activities including administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis and conducting risk management education. Participates in formulating policy and/or organizational changes but must seek advice and approval from higher authority.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Risk Management, or related field required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Five (5) years of experience in a hospital or other healthcare setting.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
If RN, current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional and general liability experience preferred. Knowledge of risk management and medico-legal decisions and terminology preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates facility-wide systems for risk identification, investigation, and mitigation.
- Investigates and evaluates clinical events to identify potential/active claims.
- Reviews, analyzes, organizes and disseminates results to leaders for follow-up and action.
- Promotes the safety event reporting process including trending and reporting of results, identification of problem prone areas, and facilitation of prevention initiatives.
- Participates in root cause analyses (RCA) for adverse or near miss events.
- Assists staff and management in developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures involving risk management or legal issues.
- Develops and presents risk management educational programs on risk management and related subjects.
- Maintains awareness of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, and assists with reporting, facilitating surveys, and follow-up action plans as required.
- Responds to professional liability and facility liability questions posed by providers, staff and volunteers.
- Advises staff on procedures to reduce the frequency/severity of property loss or assets, and hazardous conditions.
- May have on-call responsibility.
