Job Summary:
The Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant is a professional employed by Erlanger Medical Center responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient in the surgical setting. This employee is a specifically trained registered nurse who demonstrates the skills, knowledge, and judgment necessary to perform the first assistant role under direct and/or indirect supervision of a qualified physician in a professional manner to provide quality care to the surgical patient. The responsibilities should be in accordance with the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act. This individual also demonstrates the ability to assume scrub/circulator role in surgery when appropriate.

Education:
Required:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, graduate from RNFA program and successfully completed RNFA exam

Preferred:
Bachelors in Nursing

Experience:
Required:
Two (2) years experience in the operating room

Preferred:
Two (2) years experience as a CRNFA.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee
CRNFA certification
CNOR certification
BLS completed prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward

Department Position Summary:

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
