Position Title: Nurse Manager - Surgery (Salary Range: $114,000 - $180,000)

We are currently working on this opening on behalf of our client, who is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nurse Manager to join their team.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Surgery Services, the Nurse Manager is responsible for the 24-hour coordination and supervision of daily operations within the unit. This role includes participation in program development and unit performance improvement initiatives. The Nurse Manager may also provide direct patient care and education to patients, families, students, and nursing staff.

In addition to managing daily operations, the Nurse Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring success across financial management, human resources management, leadership, quality, and operational management objectives. The Nurse Manager consistently embodies the core values of Enloe Medical Center and serves as a role model for other employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development and management of department budgets and productivity targets.
  • Oversee human resources utilization, promote employee satisfaction, support staff development, and apply the progressive discipline process when necessary.
  • Lead employees in alignment with organizational goals and decisions, implement necessary changes, and engage in strategic planning for service needs and resource utilization.
  • Maintain and promote quality service and best practices within the department.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and ensure the implementation of regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that services are provided with consideration for the age-specific physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of patients served.
  • Continuously evaluate departmental functions and the delivery of patient services.
  • Keep the Director and administration informed about the level of care/service provided, as well as patient, employee, and physician satisfaction.
  • Act as a liaison between patients/families, physicians, and the patient care team to resolve issues as they arise.
  • In collaboration with the Director, translate knowledge of professional and regulatory standards into policies, practices, and procedures, keeping them up to date.
  • Research and address interdepartmental issues in a timely manner, promoting respectful and responsive communication between departments to support patient-centered care.
  • Supervise staff in service areas, guiding them in adhering to applicable standards of care and departmental/organizational expectations.
  • Serve as a resource to other departments, providing education and information in your area of expertise.
  • Perform nursing assessments in accordance with professional nursing practice standards.
  • Plan patient care using a multidisciplinary approach and individualized patient care plans.
  • Implement planned interventions in a safe and technically competent manner.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and make appropriate changes in care to improve results.
  • Address the teaching needs of patients and their families.
  • Function within the limits specified by the Nurse Practice Act and Title 22.
  • Document patient care appropriately according to policy.

Education / Training / Experience:
  • Minimum:
    • Five years of clinical nursing experience in Surgical Services.
    • One year of perioperative charge nurse experience.
  • Desired:
    • Recent management experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field.
    • Membership in a professional organization and attendance at conferences related to the management and supervision of employees.

Licenses / Certifications:
  • Minimum:
    • Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
    • Current CPR certification.
    • Current ACLS certification.
    • Current PALS certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • Desired:
    • Specialty Certification related to Surgical Services (CNOR).

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:
  • Must possess knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality improvement processes, with the ability to successfully integrate these into practice for the assigned unit.
  • Financial management, quality improvement processes, and human resources management skills or the ability to learn them are essential.
  • Ability to effectively monitor, evaluate, and administer the resources of the assigned area and make substantiated recommendations for future resource allocation needs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to lead, motivate, delegate, analyze information, and solve problems.
  • Demonstrates technical competence and professional clinical judgment in line with Enloe Medical Center's core values.
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
