To deliver care and create a therapeutic environment for patients and families whose needs range from basic to complex by utilizing the nursing process. To carry out functions in a manner consistent with Performance Improvement and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. To demonstrate clinical excellence through proficient practice which enhances and enriches the practice environment. Proficiency is evidenced by adeptness, facility, aptitude, ease and skill in managing complexity and uncertainty.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Director and in accordance with standards of care and practice established by the Nursing Organization and, the specific department; the rules, regulations and/or standards established by the State Board of Nursing, and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the patient population under care, the incumbent performs the following functions:

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the essential functions of the job:
  1. Ability to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the demographics and/ or specific needs of the patient population served by the hospital.
  2. Demonstrates proficiency in assessing, responding and adapting treatment of care to meet the needs of the patient population served by the hospital.
  3. Ability to perform computer entry including: ordering, ADT, and charging functions independently or in collaboration with the department coordinator.
  4. Ability to wear protective clothing such as gown, mask, glove, head cover, lead apron, safety glasses and/or safety shoes.
  5. Ability to perform job alone following standard practices and any of several procedures as defined by the American Nurses Association's Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and the NH State Board of Nursing, but refer questionable cases when they arise out of standard practice.
  6. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  7. Requires the ability to utilize and navigate electronic clinical documentation system in order to enter patient data.
  8. Basic computer keyboarding and data entry skills required.


Qualifications

Education:
  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing.
  • BSN preferred.
Experience:
  • Three to five years of hospital or outpatient ambulatory care experience or equivalent required.
  • Experience or continuing education in oncology specialty preferred.
  • Advanced IV therapy skills are essential.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; organizational skills with attention to detail necessary.
  • Requires the ability to utilize and navigate electronic clinical documentation system in order to enter patient data.
  • Basic computer keyboarding and data entry skills required.
Licensure/ Certification:
  • Current registration in the State of NH as a Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Required to take the "Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course" and to keep their ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card current throughout employment.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification preferred.
  • Intravenous Therapy or IV Therapy Certification preferred.
