Job Summary:
Possess knowledge and skill necessary to meet standards for professional practice specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Practice is characterized by a balance of dependent and interdependent decision-making. Competently functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Responsible for assisting in the delivery of nursing care for assigned patients. Participates in gather assessment data and jointly planning patient care. Provides care to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient, carrying out the physician's orders in a manner that ensures quality and patient safety. Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
• Ensure Joint Commission standards are met.
• Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel and all other disciplines concerning the care and well-being of patients.
• Ability to delegate tasks appropriate to skills/knowledge of caregiver and to take corrective action when performance is appropriate.
• Actively participates in staff development.
• Supports and facilitates the team concept between individuals, unit staff, and department.
• Knowledge and experience in use of supplies/equipment in a clinic setting.
• Ensures the clinic is a clean/safe environment for patients, family, and staff. Ensures hallways are free from clutter.
• Asses the patient's physical, psycho-social, and behavioral health needs.
• Provides patient and families with appropriate education.
• Prepares exam room, procedure room, equipment, and assists providers when needed.
• Accountable for the identification and reduction of unsafe practices that could cause harm to patients.
• Supports and promotes system-wide activities related to adequate hand hygiene and the prevention of healthcare associated infections.
• Other duties as assigned.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
• Participates in unit based quality improvement program.
• Adheres to internal controls established for department.
• Required to maintain competency in the patient safety functions related to their position.
• Participates and supports Hospital Performance Improvement activities.
• Completion of annual mandatory training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before expiration date.
• Bilingual a plus.
• EMR experience.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including telephones, facsimiles, copiers, desktop computers and printers.
Ability to operated medical equipment such as IV pumps, portable oxygen, defibrillators, telemetry monitors, wound vacs, hospital beds, and other equipment required for patient care
Qualifications
Required Education / Experience:
• Graduate from an accredited Registered Nurse Program is required.
• 2 years current experience in an Endoscopy Lab preferred.
Required Licensure/Certification:
• Must possess and maintain a current RN license to practice in Texas.
• Must possess and maintain current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS/ALS preferred at hire.
• Specialty certification is preferred and hire and preferred within 12 months of eligibility.
Working Environment:
• This is a clinical/surgical environment.
