Job Summary:
The East Patient Flow /Rapid Response Nurse (PF/RR) functions as the Patient Flow Manager, Primary Rapid Response, & Code Nurse. This position requires a high clinically skilled registered nurse, who possesses critical care and emergency response knowledge, leadership ability, as well as an understanding of patient flow principles.

This position responds to, functions as and responsible for the following:
Onsite Patient Flow Manager, in direct and continuous collaborating with Erlanger Regional Operations Center, Clinical Leadership, and stakeholders to ensure the optimum, effective, efficient, and safe flow of patients while promoting a patient centered and team environment.

Coordinate with physicians and clinical staff on plan of care implementation, with the overarching goal of improving patient outcomes as indicated.

Rapid Response Team Leader for all for all facility emergencies, to include, Rapid Response Alerts, Code Blues, Code Strokes/STEMI's/Sepsis, Massive Transfusions, Visitor Emergencies, and assists with transferring critically ill patients to the ICU.

Education:
Required:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

Preferred:
BSN with exception upon approval of East Chief Nursing Office and BEH Chief Nursing Officer

Experience:
Required:
Three to five years of nursing experience, with two years of adult ICU and/or adult ED nursing experience within the past five years.

Completion of Rapid Response and advanced skills credentialing within 3 months of hire

Strong communication, leadership, team building, project-management and organization skills

Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skill with ability to conceptualize solutions to challenging situations and implement practical plans

Preferred:
Charge or Lead Nurse experience
Process or quality improvement experience
EMS or Pre-Hospital provider experience, knowledge or education

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee, or if non-Tennessee resident, current multistate compact Licensure to practice nursing.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months of hire

Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) certification within 12 months of hire
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) instructor
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification instructor
Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification, Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) certification

Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) certification

PRN:
Employees moving to a PRN role in the 7550 cost center must meet the PRN requirements currently upheld by EHS Emergency Services (3) 12 hour shifts per 6 week schedule, with one shift being a weekend (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat/Sun nights). PRN employees must meet nursing experience outlined below and have completed 12 months in the RR/PFM role prior to transitioning to PRN, unless given written permission from CNO. PRN must upkeep all competencies and required education as outlined below.

Department Position Summary:
Erlanger East Patient Flow / Rapid Response (PF/RR) Nurse must take on many roles; patient flow management and capacity planning, ICU nurse, ED nurse, floor nurse, OR nurse, patient representative, grief counselor, physician liaison, case manager, educator, etc. Flexibility is required as he/she will be asked to function as Patient Flow Manager, care for patients in extreme distress and serves Rapid Response and Code Team Lead Nurse, etc. The East PF/RR Nurse will be directly supervised by the Emergency Department Clinical Nurse Manager, with accountability and oversight by BEH Chief Nursing Executive and East Chief Nursing Officer. The management team will collaborate on duties, processes, and roles within Erlanger East Hospital and health system-wide activities.

The purpose of this position is to direct patient flow and manage capacity and provide clinical expertise for medical-surgical, acute care, critically ill patients in multiple settings. This position requires a motivated, skilled, experienced and qualified nurse with emergency and critical care experience to manage patients in a variety of situations and environments and the desire to continue education growth. East PF/RR Nurse collaborates with the physicians and clinical staff to organize care delivery and to facilitate the flow of the patient through the system. East PF/RR Nurse is expected to collaborate with stakeholders in the implementation of standardized procedures and guidelines designed to improve patient care outcomes and East Hospital as a whole.

He/ She shall be flexible and willing to take on new tasks, participate in projects, seek out educational and learning opportunities, striving to grow as a nurse, provide education and in-services to staff as appropriate and indicated by management.

The East PFM/RR shall possess the following:
Understanding of Patient Flow and Capacity management practices
Knowledge of general nursing principles and practical nursing skills
Understanding of organizational functions, policies and regulations

He/She shall complete Advanced Credentialing process with direct supervision of Erlanger Health System designated trainer.
