Texas Oncology is looking for a Full-time Infusion Registered Nurse Sr (RN) to join our team!This position will support the Dallas Baylor Sammons MedOnc Infusion Department located at 3410 Worth St. STE 300, Dallas, TX. This is a dual position which will cover both Research and Med/Onc Infusion.This is a full-time position with no weekends, call or major holidays. The hours for this position will vary from 8a-6:30pm.

What does the Infusion Registered Nurse Sr (RN) do?

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

Infusion RN
  • Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
  • Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage.

Research Infusion RN
  • Facilitates scheduling infusion appointments as directed by protocol needs.
  • Will administer non-FDA approved therapies including first in-human.
  • Participates in training/in-servicing for new clinical trials.
  • Collaborates closely with the research team to follow strict protocol timelines and monitors for protocol specific dose modifications. Assess patient status prior to initiating treatment (VS, labs, additional testing, etc.).
  • Follows protocol-specific guidelines for research assessments throughout treatments and post infusion; including but not limited to vital signs, serial lab draws, and prolonged observations.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills are expected; includes respectful and trusting relationships with coordinators/research team, pharmacy, and clinic staff.
  • Detail oriented and organization is a must - example: organized standards and non-cluttered work area decreases distractions and facilitates in keeping patient status current; aids in collection of protocol specific assessments.
  • Integrity and accountability - Because research is dependent on accurate recording, there is no "guesstimating times", pre-charting, or excuses. Must be willing to own mistakes and to follow through with corrections. Assessments and interventions to be documented clearly.
  • Self-disciplined and motivated; ability to follow policy and protocol exactly as stated. Push aside distractions, interruptions, and conversations when needed without being told.
  • Will back up Phase I infusion patients as needed.
  • Should anticipate occasional late days (limited to an average X times), typically planned in advance with scheduling.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Clinic Registered Nurse Sr (RN) will have the following background and experience:
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Five years nursing experience
  • Infusion nursing. Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy provider card preferred
  • Current ONS/Biotherapy certification. Additional certifications a plus (OCN, CRNI, etc..)
