Job Summary:
A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Only Applies to RN, Staff Nurse Performing Additional Duties: Will be responsible for overall clinical activities in the Children's Kennedy Outpatient Center (ChKoc). Will complete the daily assignment of the Rapid Response Team, respond and lead all Rapid Responses (assess patient, call 911, notify Children's ED, etc.). Will be responsible for compliance and training of ChKoc employees in the lab as required for Lab CLIA Certificate. Orient all clinical new hires/transfers for ChKoc. Ensure all clinical staff have completed clinical skill competencies for their particular work duties.

Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.

Required:
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. BLS completed prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Department Position Summary

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive emergent care appropriate to the age of the patients seen in the Ambulatory Department. Ability to assess patients and consistently re-evaluate and prioritize based on fluctuation of volume and acuity. Ability to recognize emergent situations and act promptly and appropriately based on the patient's needs. Select, develop, implement and evaluate plan of care. Ability to administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
