Job Duties

VDOT's Lynchburg Location and Design Section is seeking two highly qualified Roadway Design Engineers to design, manage and produce right of way and construction roadway plans for a wide range of transportation projects using automated engineering and design software. Specifically, you will:
• Serve as project manager to include responsibility for preparing quantities and estimates, developing and maintaining schedules, monitoring project activities, and preparing and presenting engineering data.
• Provide technical guidance on roadway design issues from the preliminary engineering process through construction.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
• Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
• Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies and procedures.
• Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
• Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers and FHWA representatives.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software.
• Ability to plan and schedule work.
• Skill in delivering exemplary customer service
• Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs.

Additional Considerations

• Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects.
• A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.

In addition to a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, a $3,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates. Current VDOT employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.
