Job Description

Raymond R. Neevel/Missouri Endowed Assistant/Associate Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Studies.

The UMKC Conservatory is seeking qualified applications for a tenure-track/tenure-eligible endowed faculty position in choral music. This is a 9-month position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This faculty member's responsibilities and duties will include:

• Leading Conservatory choral ensembles in artistically engaging performances including local as well as regional/national/international venues.

• Teaching graduate choral conducting and choral literature classes and build a successful cohort of graduate students in choral conducting.

• Professional outreach through hosting conducting symposia and honor ensemble festivals as well as guest conducting engagements, presentations, and residencies at a national/international institutions and conferences.

• Collaborating with Conservatory faculty to guide performance and curricular aspects of choral music at the Conservatory.

• Collaborating in artistic and curricular projects and initiatives within and outside the university, including community partnerships.

• Participating actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by meaningful committee service.

• Contributing actively in the cultural environment of Kansas City and surrounding areas.

• Other duties based on the candidate's strengths and the needs of the institution.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will show evidence of these qualifications:

• A doctoral degree in choral conducting

• Successful experience as an artist/teacher/scholar in choral music in a university setting

• Experience and recognized status as a choral conductor at the national/international level

• The ability to build and maintain vibrant collegiate choral ensembles with quality graduate and undergraduate students

• Successful teaching, mentorship, and placement of graduate students in choral conducting

• Excellent organizational and leadership skills that could include successful grant funding, curricular innovations, and/or outreach projects

• A record of nurturing and maintaining healthy relationships with and among students, colleagues, alumni, and community stakeholders

• Prior service and leadership roles in professional choral organizations

Anticipated Hiring Range

This is a 9-month full-time, benefit-eligible endowed faculty position eligible for tenure. The position is to begin August 2025.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
