8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be allowed to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in assigned zones.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

University Preferred Qualifications:


Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Essential Job Duties
1. Responsible for assessment of Regional Utility Plant ( RUP ) conditions and performing proper resolution methods.
2. Assist Advanced level technicians in the repair and installation of RUP systems, focusing on chillers and cooling towers.
3. Responsible for performing routine maintenance to ensure that RUP systems continue to run smoothly, systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of RUP components does not deteriorate.
4. Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot control circuits.
5. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
Other Work Responsibilities
1. Act as a Journey level worker and assist with other facility maintenance technicians.
2. Work with supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
3. Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
4. Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).
5. Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
1. Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
2. 2-4 years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in chillers/cooling towers preferred.
3.. E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certification preferred ( able to obtain within the first year of employment)
4. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required.
5. Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
6. Computer literate.
7. Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
8. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
9. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
10. The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
A valid driver's license. The HVAC Shop position requires the operation of assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.

Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
