Operates state vehicle to travel to & coordinate, monitor & evaluate safety & health programs to ensure all accident & health hazards are removed from work environment; conducts Job Safety Analysis/Job Hazard Analysis (JSA/JHA) identifying job hazards, reviews identified hazardous work conditions with managers, establishes corrective action(s), & conducts follow-up inspections; evaluates the effectiveness of the district safety & health program to eliminate potential gaps in compliance; implements new safety-related written programs (e.g., Blood Born Pathogen, Confined Space, Lockout Tagout, Respirator/Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation) & develops best practices to ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards; conducts industrial hygiene testing in work areas as needed to determine existence of toxic materials & hazardous conditions & initiates corrective measures; assists in development of safety guidelines for removal of hazardous conditions; addresses unsafe at-risk behavior & imminently dangerous situations in workplace with employees & supervisors; orders suspension or halt activities posting threat to workers health & safety.

Trains &/or leads lower-level safety & health inspectors; explains proper procedures & inspection & investigation techniques. Coordinates District Safety Partner Program (e.g., identifies safety partners, schedules committee meetings, gathers feedback & information regarding safety concerns, provides safety-related education). Leads safety meetings & serves on various safety committees (e.g., District Joint Health & Safety Committee); uses computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Office) to assist with &/or conduct various safety-related presentations & trainings (e.g., New Hire Orientation, Flagging, First Aid/CPR/AED, Emergency Action Plan (ASAP), District Safety Meetings) at various district facilities including advanced level safety courses & assists developing content for safety education materials; explains safety practices & procedures, existing OSHA standards & regulations through use of lecture, film &/or various visual aids, creates & distributes education materials & posters related to occupational safety, as needed.

Performs variety of safety-related administrative duties (e.g., prepares & submits reports, processes records & maintains files); assists with the development & distribution of the district safety business plan; reviews & analyzes safety inspections & accident & injury claims to identify root cause, probably loss factors, trends & implement mitigation strategies to control risk. Operates computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Office) & other technology equipment (e.g., iPad, iPhone) to prepare & submit investigatory & inspection reports & document corrective actions; generates reports; provides variety of graphs & charts that identify loss tends, Critical Success Factors (CSFs) & Key Performance Index (KPIs). Stays up-to-date on state & federal occupational safety regulations & applicable consensus standards through continuing education; performs research & reviews best safety practices; promotes employee safety as a core value to bolster a culture of safety.

Qualifications

12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in fire & occupational safety & health education &/or inspection; & 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in federal & state laws pertaining to industrial & occupational safety & health; & 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in statistics; & 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; & 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing principles & techniques; & valid driver's license, except in Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, must provide own transportation for travel & required automobile insurance coverage pursuant to Section 4509.51 of Revised Code as needed.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in natural sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology); & 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in safety & health inspection practices & procedures & federal & state laws pertaining to industrial & occupational safety & health; & 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in statistics; & 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; & 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing principles & techniques; & valid driver's license, except in Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, must provide own transportation for travel & required automobile insurance coverage pursuant to Section 4509.51 of Revised Code as needed.
