ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Safety Manager (Human Resources Supervisor) manages the Human Resources Department Safety Division's workplace safety programs, including a staff of 6 employees, and directs organization-wide safety programs for a workforce of over 14,000 employees.

Primary duties include:
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA and DOT standards in the workplace and coordinating City-wide efforts directed at reducing OSHA Incident Rates;
  • Managing the Industrial Hygiene program;
  • Managing the Fleet Safety program;
  • Creating/monitoring city-wide safety programs;
  • Managing the electronic incident reporting system;
  • Serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for COVID-19 employee related issues;
  • Serving as the city representative on various labor group Safety Committees;
  • Investigating and responding to safety concerns or complaints; Investigating and responding to incidents and injuries;
  • Conducting safety training.

SALARY

Pay Range: $93,121.60 - $137,592.00 annually.

Hiring Range: $93,121.60 - $113,191.60 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of professional human resources management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, risk management, environmental safety, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of education and experience that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Minimum of five years of professional-level experience in injury prevention, investigation programs, or occupational safety and health, with at least two years at the advanced / senior-professional level.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience ensuring OSHA standards in the workplace and implementing programs to reduce incident rates.
  • Experience managing industrial hygiene programs and fleet safety programs.
