Dayco has an exciting job opportunity for a Sales Engineer, that will be part of the North American Belts OE Team. The ideal candidate will have a combination of 5+ years' experience in sales and/or application engineering working directly with OEM customers, preferably with existing knowledge in the Light Vehicle, Commercial Vehicle, Off-Highway, or Industrial markets. Experience with Poly-V, Synchronous, CVT or V-Belt is a bonus. The candidate will have a thorough understanding of the companies, customers, and level of service required to not only meet, but exceed customer expectations.

The Sales Engineer works for the Sales & Application Engineering Manager and has overall commercial and engineering responsibility for one or more of the Account's customers. The responsibility is broader than an Account Manager and differs in terms of technical depth, complexity, importance, size, or scope of customer. Dayco is an international company, and often times responsibilities require working with multiple regions across the globe.

The Sales Engineer is responsible for the daily maintenance of their accounts while also ensuring proper application of Dayco products. He/She will work with Engineering and Manufacturing Operations to create and implement strategies for maximizing current business and obtaining new business at the assigned OEM(s). This position must conform to company and divisional guidelines pertaining to profit margins, capital, engineering, and manufacturing resources. Adequate authority and receives adequate guidance to make decisions necessary to ensure the proper job function. Deviations to normal procedures are well received by divisional management if properly presented. The position functions as a member of an aggressive and self-motivated team and he/she will take a leadership role in coordination of new business opportunities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Represent the company in a professional, positive manner through personal visitation, communication, and a sense of ownership to instill trust and confidence with the customer.
  • Develops (with input from cross-functional teams) and deploys comprehensive customer strategies that improve profitability and growth.
  • Efficiently provide answers and assessments during system design, testing and troubleshooting processes.
  • Seeks new opportunities within advanced engineering groups at OEs with the goal of being a part of the initial design of the application, not just supplier.
  • Negotiates product pricing and related contracts and agreements.
  • Articulates a clear understanding of our market share, competitive position, and profitability at each assigned account.
  • Conduct system analysis, develop system specific FMEAs, establish product validation plans, etc. for specific customer projects.
  • Works in conjunction with sales management to deploy comprehensive pricing strategies which are market driven, based on value provided the customer and competitive alternatives.
  • Builds a strong relationship with the external customer, keeps customer informed of Dayco's continuous improvement and product enhancements.
  • Develops proactive new business opportunity (NBO) plans, tracking and recording progress toward sales objectives.
  • Monitors market dynamics, including customer and competitor developments and funnels relevant information to the appropriate sales / engineering management for consolidation in our market sensing process.
  • Takes ownership of total customer satisfaction, monitoring our performance on key supplier metrics and pursuing corrective action plans as appropriate.
  • Develops into the subject matter expert and the point of contact for all things technical with our customer base.
  • Develops sales forecasts for use in the Business Planning and monitors market trends throughout the year for use in monthly forecast adjustments.
  • Able to be a part of a global Dayco team that engages with customers and colleagues around the world.
  • Complies with contract review procedures and Dayco commercial policies.

  • Regular travel to customer sites will be required. Travel requirements will be self-managed and can fluctuate based on the immediate needs of the customer, internal events, or budget. Most travel will be domestic, although the opportunity may exist for some international. Travel frequency is estimated to be 30% or less, depending on the candidates location.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Engineering degree preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, etc.), Finance or Business degree acceptable
  • 5 years minimum Account Manager or Application Engineering experience
  • Financial skills beneficial (cost breakdown, amortization, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of our products and services are critically important
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive customer/supplier relationships
  • Strong creativity and communication skills
