ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Perform all duties associated with training to be a school bus driver, including but not limited to:
• Successfully complete required classroom and testing requirements to obtain NC DMV CDL Class B with P &S learners permit within 1st 60 days of employment.
• Successfully complete required behind the wheel training required to obtain NC CDL license within 1st 90 days of employment.
• Assist bus driver in making decisions pertaining to the bus and the safety of passengers.
• Assist bus driver in assigning seats to students on the bus and preparing seating charts.
• Assist bus driver in documenting all discipline problems and turning them in to the Principal or Assistant Principal at assigned schools.
• Assist bus driver in conducting pre-trip/post trip inspections.
• Assist bus driver in cleaning bus daily.
• Learns the assigned routes in accordance with establish schedules and timelines.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or equivalent is desirable.
• Must be 18 years old with six months driving experience.
• Clean Department Motor Vehicle driving record.
• Must submit to a drug test before completing behind the wheel training.
• Must obtain a Driver's Medical Certificate before completing behind the wheel training.
• Must obtain a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements within 90 days of employment.
• Understands once licensed, will be move to a School Bus Driver position within UCPS Transportation Department.

Note: 6 months probationary period applies; if at any time during the 1st 6 months of employment, the employee does not satisfy the requirements of the position, termination of employment is an option at the discretion of UCPS Transportation Services.
