The KWRL Transportation Cooperative is a joint venture of Kalama, Woodland, Ridgefield and La Center School Districts working together to transport student in as safe and efficient method as possible. Position Title: School Bus/Motor Pool Service Technician

Start Date: As soon as possible

Hours: 8 hours per day M-F, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, 260 days per year (including 13 holidays), vacation, sick and personal leave, per union agreements

Benefits: Position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D and LTD through the School Emplyee Benefits Board (SEBB), effective the first day of the month after start date. Position is eligible for retirement through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).

Job Summary: School Bus/Motor Pool Service Technician will be responsible for providing a broad range of basic preventative service duties for the KWRL motor pool. Duties will also require detailed record keeping and adherence to standard service schedules. Safe, accurate and efficient student transportation is the paramount organization core function and will require that the Motor Pool Service Technician be available to drive school bus on route, or on shuttle trips when operational demand warrant school bus driving duty assignments.

Qualifications:
  • Gasoline and diesel service technician with at least two years of training or experience servicing gas and diesel motor pool
  • Diesel training program graduates preferable
  • The position will also be a mandatory substitute school bus driver and must possess or be able to secure a Class B CDL and school bus endorsement from OSPI within two months of hire date or within two months of 21st birthday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to demonstrate a technological aptitude relative to recording shop maintenance records using various software
  • Must be self-motivated and able to carry out written and oral directions with and without supervision
  • Must be a team player able to maintain productive working relationships within a team context
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and adhere to federal drug and alcohol testing guidelines
  • Excellent work attendance history

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

School Bus Driver
  • Student transportation is the paramount organizational priority and will require that driving school bus on route or shuttle duties be the paramount priority over service duties when required
Service Duties
  • Lubrication of buses and other equipment to include chassis lube, oil, filter changes, draining and filling of gear box, packing wheel bearing, air cleaner service and other procedures as required
  • Safely and proficiently operate a broad range of industry standard tools and equipment up to, but not limited to, battery chargers, welders, torches, grinders, hydraulic, electric or air powered apparatus
  • Assist with shop inventory for parts and supplies
  • Clean and organize shop facility as required or directed
  • Verify operation safety of equipment such as brakes, lights, mirrors, glass, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, warning kits, tires, buzzers and alarms, etc.
  • Change and repair tires, hoses, batteries and other exchange components of a school bus or motor vehicle
  • Safe and proficient road side repair of fleet vehicles
  • Cleaning and minor maintenance of KWRL facilities and grounds as needed
  • Perform such other tasks and activities assigned by the Shop Supervisor or Director of Transportation
Record Keeping
  • Follow and adhere to an organized fleet service maintenance schedule. Produce and maintain accurate and detailed records of fleet maintenance and service work using industry support software
