POSITION TITLE: Guidance Counselor

JOB GOAL: To provide students with educational, personal, and career technical counseling and to identify and coordinate all available resources required to enable and empower students to reach full potential.

REPORTS TO: Principal or designee

SUPERVISES: N/A

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan and commensurate with the local system plan.
2. Provide individual and group counseling and guidance.
3. Provide orientation for new students, parents/guardians, and faculty.
4. Consult with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about the special needs of students and make appropriate referrals.
5. Provide appropriate appraisal services to assist teachers, parents/guardians, and students.
6. Administer tests, analyze and interpret test results to provide information about educational, vocational, and personal/social needs.
7. Assist with placement and follow-up services for students.
8. Assist students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.
9. Provide information and resource services for students, parents/guardians, and faculty.
10. Assist students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
11. Provide crisis intervention services.
