To assist students and families in the reduction of various barriers to learning, utilizing methods of school social work practice appropriate to identified concerns, including: direct services; collaboration/consultation; capacity building; school program development; and school system building and alignment. Collaborates with various school teams to identify, assess, intervene and refer students and their families to applicable programs and to develop school processes that prevent and address chronic absenteeism, behavior issues, and poor course performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Provides direct services including School Social Work assessments; crisis intervention; group, individual and family counseling / interventions; information/ referrals; and strengths based clinical case management to support students and families.
  • Establishes and maintains communication and partnerships with parents regarding student academic, behavioral and attendance progress and challenges. Fosters family engagement through various strategies (e.g. outreach, events, home visits, meetings, etc.).
  • Participates in various team meetings in support of individual students as well as school systems that impact and support student academics, behavior, and attendance.
  • Develops partnerships with school and district personnel, teams/committees, and programs, as well as community agencies in order to ensure effective communication and collaboration, as well as student and family access to resources and services.
  • Assists in developing, providing and facilitating the provisions of student, family, classroom and school-level interventions and strategies that promote student behavior, academic, and attendance success.
  • Participates in the development and delivery of in-service programs for school, District staff, and the community.
  • Documents activities and assesses the quality and effectiveness of activities, and student, program, and school outcomes. • Serve on the school's Health and Wellness Team.
  • Provide technical assistance to schools and ensure effectiveness of school-based teams such as Early Warning System, Attendance, Health & Wellness, and MTLSS Teams.
  • Assume other duties and perform other tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Valid New Mexico State Board of Education license In Social Work.
  • Effective communication skills diverse populations, both verbal and written, in-person and on the telephone.
  • Bi-lingual.
  • Experience with implementing case management best practices.
  • Proficient with word processing, database and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge and application of a strengths based systems approach.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of district and community resources and services.
  • Experience coaching and/or training groups of adults.

REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Bachelors OR Master's degree In Social Work or a related field.
  • Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker (BSW), Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)
  • Five years experience in Social Work or related field
