Position Overview:

The Mass General Research Institute (MGRI) is home to a research community of 9,500+ researchers working to understand disease and develop solutions to medicine's most pressing challenges. The MGRI Communications team is looking for a social media intern to join our efforts of amplifying the groundbreaking research and scientists.

This paid internship is designed to offer a comprehensive experience within a communications team at a world-leading research institution.

Key Responsibilities:

Social Media Content Production:

  • Assist in developing and curating engaging social media content that highlights research activities and achievements.
  • Support the management of social media platforms by scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to inquiries.


Science Writing:

  • Write compelling and accessible articles about ongoing scientific research for a broad audience.
  • Collaborate with researchers to accurately convey complex scientific concepts in a clear and engaging manner.


Graphic and Visual Design:

  • Create and edit multimedia elements, including graphics, videos, and infographics, to support research communication efforts.
  • Work closely with the team to ensure that multimedia content aligns with the institute's branding and messaging.


Internal Communications:

  • Compile and distribute newsletters and other internal communications materials to keep the research community informed and engaged.
  • Assist in the coordination of internal events and announcements related to research initiatives.


Qualifications

Must be able to work remotely during Eastern standard business hours, 2-3 days per week for 10 or more weeks between September and December 2024.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Health, Public Relations, or Marketing
  • Must possess excellent writing and organizational skills
  • Must demonstrate professionalism and willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with AP style and/or journalistic writing a plus
  • Strong communication, writing and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively multitask
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Creative, self-motivated, and eager to learn.


Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

  • Have some knowledge of social media analytics and how to grow social media platforms
  • Have some knowledge of content creation for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X.
  • Have an eye for graphic design
  • Are motivated to learn and work with a dynamic team
  • Are team players with curious and creative mindsets


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports; may indirectly provide leadership and guidance to less seasoned and new staff


Fiscal Responsibility:

  • No direct budgetary responsibility
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources


Working Conditions:

  • Possible local travel to Mass General Brigham sites
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
