The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care , is seeking a is seeking a Scientist II.

General Responsibilities
  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
  • To plan, design, and conduct research and present findings.


Key Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Designs and implements research protocols and projects, advanced analytical techniques and the modification and extension of theories and practices in innovative research projects in field or specialty.
  2. Develops statistical and observational models.
  3. Independently, or in collaboration, conceives of increasingly complex research projects or training programs.
  4. Writes grant applications and carries projects to completion.
  5. Collaborates with users and principal investigators on design, analysis, application, and reporting of research projects.
  6. Teaches and advises on techniques.
  7. May require education and/or training work and may include developing intramural training symposia, mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.
  8. Prepares grant proposals to obtain funding in support of research activities.
  9. Assists with manuscript development, writing, and submission. Supports researchers in developing abstracts, posters, and presentations.
  10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment and/or systems.
  11. Interprets research data and results.
  12. Develops materials for various research, training, and educational programs.
  13. Works concurrently on multiple grants, manuscripts, and other projects.
  14. Supports researchers in developing grants, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.





Annual Salary Range $74,100.00 - $85,000.00

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience
  • OR M.D. and Master's degree and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR Master's degree and six (6) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
