Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

This person coordinates all efforts associated with the project. Specifically, this person increases state-wide awareness as well as serves as a conduit to national trends to the SC Directors.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in special education, higher education, rehabilitation counseling, disability studies, non or other relevant field, and a minimum of one years' experience working with inclusive postsecondary education programs and students with intellectual disability is required. Must be able to travel regionally as needed.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in in special education, higher education, rehabilitation counseling, disability studies, or other relevant field, and a minimum of three years' experience working with inclusive postsecondary education programs and students with intellectual disability. Directed/managed a college program for students with ID and collaborated/consulted with other programs, ideally experience with engaging with a state and/or regional alliance. Legislative/policy-level experience preferred. Marketing and/or awareness campaign experience preferred. This is a leadership position; person should be passionate and able to read and synthesize relevant literature related to IPSEs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities in higher education, related issues and supports.
  • Knowledge of and field-based experience with inclusive postsecondary program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Understanding of state and federal policies impacting inclusive postsecondary education.
  • Knowledge of and experience with state or regional alliances in inclusive postsecondary education.
  • Knowledge of strategies for communication to audiences within and external to the university and the consortium.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, to take initiative and manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of personnel having varying levels of administrative and organizational abilities.

Job Duties

Job Duty

Serve as state-level point of contact for all SC IPSE programs, including technical assistance provider and connector to additional information related to IPSE program operations. While we expect this person to have a good understanding of the SC programs, including supports provided and basic differences in models, they will serve as the entry point to information and will connect stakeholders to program-specific contacts or other information sources for inquiries requiring beyond-basic information.

Increase awareness of IPSE programs across South Carolina to K-12 educators, school counselors, prospective students, families, and legislators via a large scale, coordinated awareness campaign.

Serve as state-level point of contact for any and all community stakeholders, including but not limited to: potential students, parents, teachers, transition professionals, SCVRD professionals.

Represent SCIPSEC at local, state, regional, and national events, meetings, and conferences, including but not limited to: SC school and district-level transition fairs, CHE meetings, autism and other intellectual disability-related conferences in SC, meetings with individual SC IPSE programs, other regional IPSE alliances, Southeastern Postsecondary Education Association (SEPSEA) annual conference, State of the Art national annual conference, AHEAD annual conference.
