Description
Surgical Scrub Technicians are responsible for preparation and post-procedure care of supplies, equipment, and instruments needed for the surgical case. They provide assistance to the surgeon during the procedure and the perioperative RN throughout the performance.
Essential Functions
Facilitates patient care, by assisting the surgeon before, during and after surgical procedures.
Plans, set up, performs, and cleans up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and as a scrub tech.
Performs sharp, sponge and instrument counts according to policy.
Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to apply the Principles of Asepsis in creating and maintaining the sterile field.
Performs sharp, sponge and instrument counts according to policy.
Non-Essential Functions
Performs other duties as assigned
Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service, projects, and committees as assigned
Adheres to and supports policies and procedures of the STRHS
Works scheduled shifts including overtime, when necessary
Accepts all call schedule as directed
Maintains a neat and professional appearance in compliance to the existing dress code.
Organizational Expectations
Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether there is harm.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
Certification as a Surgical Scrub Tech or no less than 18 months of experience as a Surgical Scrub Tech prior to July 1, 2006
Current BLS certification
