General Summary:

The Section Chief for Materials and Processes will be responsible for management of the materials and processes engineering group. Will be a Senior Materials and Processes Engineer with expertise in all facets to airframe design, certification and fabrication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a manager for the materials and processes group, leading a multi-functional team involved in all aspects of the development of material processes, specifications and drawing release standard

2. Responsible for technical oversight of the staff and developing M&P engineering strategies and roadmaps. Develops new systems concepts, processes, standards, requirements, and architectures for current and future aircraft programs. Must be business savvy with a focus on business analyses, trade studies, design for manufacturing, and alternative concepts.

3. Interacts with suppliers of parts, assemblies and material

4. Supports Production Material Review Board and Service Center liaison actions for M&P discrepancie

5. Creates FAA special process conformity and material test plans and test results report

6. Supports test houses, Procurement, and in-service aircraft

7. Travels as required for M&P issue

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:

1. BS and/or MS Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Engineering with a minimum of 10 years related experience

2. Requires experience in the production of aircraft components and working closely with cross-functional teams in the design, test and manufacture of Honda aircraft both existing and future.

3. Experience with engineering materials, manufacturing processes, composite technology, metallurgy, protective finishes and coatings, and non-destructive inspection

4. Must be familiar with FAR Part 21, 23 and/or Part 25 and aircraft certification. DER certification preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Strong technical writing skills for specifications, standards, test plans and test results reports.

2. Excellent listening, written and oral communication skills.

3. Proficient computer skills with CATIA V, TeamCenter, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, CMH STATS, SAP, and Lotus Notes.

4. Proficient at interrogating 3D engineering models in CATIA V5 for details and assemblies.

5. Proficient at applying M&P requirements on engineering drawings for M&P requirements and hybrid composite-metallic structures. Knowledge of M&P requirements for standard parts (i.e. fasteners, bushings, fittings, etc.).

6. Ability to comprehend and apply FAA regulations, technical guidance and requirements for airframe design during Type Certification and Production phases of an aircraft program.

7. Ability to perform statistical analysis of data from material qualification test programs and generates design allowables and material specification values.

8. Expertise in non-metallic technologies such as sealants and finishes for corrosion and barrier applications.

9. Expertise in corrosion protection for aircraft design and evaluating corrosion issues for in-service aircraft.

10. Experience at interfacing with FAA Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) and Manufacturing Inspection District Office (MIDO) organizations is a plus.

11. Current or prior FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) for Metallic and/or Non-Metallic M&P is a major plus.

12. Non-Destructive Testing expertise and/or NAS410 certification in any technique is a major plus.

13. Knowledge of Material Review Board (MRB) actions for M&P discrepancies. Prior MRB authority is a plus.

14. Knowledge of physical testing and mechanical testing of metallic and/or composite materials and structure is a plus.

15. Ability to mentor and /or lead less experienced engineers and technicians.

Physical Requirements:

1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.

2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).

4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.

6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.

7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.

8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided "reach assistance technology" or "movement assist technology" (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly's, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
